Subject: Oriental Fruit Fly Control Program Initiated in Florida

Two oriental fruit flies have been trapped in Sarasota, Florida last week. The traps catching these flies were located only about two blocks apart.
In accordance with the USDA fruit fly eradication protocol, a control program has been launched immediately, and the first of six bait station treatments is scheduled to begin Wednesday July 18. The treatment area comprises the 6.9 square miles enclosed by University Parkway, N. Shade Avenue, 10th Street, and Sarasota Bay.
