The South American cucurbit fruit fly, Anastrepha grandis (Macquart), infests watermelon and other cucurbit fruits. It has been intercepted at U. S. ports in banana debris from Panama, and in pumpkin from Argentina and Brazil. If A. grandis ever became established in Texas or Florida, it would be of potential economic importance.
