Subject: First report of Plum pox potyvirus in Argentina

Plum pox potyvirus (PPV) has been detected on plum (Prunus domestica) and apricot (P. armeniaca) trees from a single property in the Province of San Juan, Argentina.  Electronic microscopy and DAS-ELISA tests confirmed the identity of the virus in January 2005.  All plants were destroyed and the surrounding property was placed under quarantine.
