Date posted: June 05, 2001
Source: ProMED mail
Pepino mosaic potexvirus (PepMV) was discovered in glasshouse tomatoes in Italy in February and March, 2001. This virus can cause significant damage in protected tomato production, and is readily spread via contaminated tools, human hands or clothing, direct plant-to-plant contact, and by grafting. It has recently been found in tomato crops in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands. This is the first reported incidence of PepMV in Italy.
