Subject: Potential symptoms of Citrus Sudden Death found in new root stock in Brazil
Date posted: July 10, 2003
Source: Reuters
Young citrus trees with the Volkameriano lime rootstock were detected with symptoms characteristic of Citrus Sudden Death (MSC). Volkameriano lime rootstock, is the second most used variety in Brazil's orchards, constituting 5% of the citrus crop. It was believed to be resistant to MSC. Citrus growers were encouraged to use this variety as an alternative to the Rangpur lime rootstock which accounts for 85% of the citrus crop in Brazil and until this detection on Volkameriano, was the only rootstock known to be susceptible to MSC.
