Subject: Potato mop top virus found in Prince Edward Island

Preliminary tests conducted by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency officials show Potato mop top virus (PMTV) is present in Prince Edward Island. This is the first outbreak of PMTV in Canada on commercial potatoes. Seed potato samples used in the tests originated from Maine. To date, PMTV has been found in 8 potato seed producing states in the United States.
