Subject: Emerald ash borer, Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire, (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) confirmed in Lucas County, Ohio
Date posted: 03/07/03
Source: Ohio Department of Agriculture Office of Communications News Release
The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire, is now confirmed in Lucas County, Ohio. This new detection feeds the concern over this Asian native that is already held responsible for killing millions of ash trees (Fraxinus spp.) in southeastern Michigan and Ontario, Canada.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources estimates there are 3.8 billion ash trees in Ohio. A task force has been established by the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) to evaluate the problem and determine a course of action to control the spread of EAB in Ohio.
