Report:

As part of the actions applied by the Phytosanitary Epidemiological Surveillance System through the Preventive trapping program for exotic fruit flies, a male specimen of Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) was detected in an urban area in Cancun, municipality of Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo on June 19, 2023.

The National Service for Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality, through the Plant Health General Directorate, detected a male specimen of Mediterranean fruit fly Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) on a Jackson trap baited with tridmelure in an urban area of Cancun, municipality of Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo. Consequently, delimiting actions were implemented by increasing the number of traps with specific lures, and fruit sampling. This will allow us to characterize the pest incursion (possible distribution and its scope). As a result, we do not have additional pest records at this moment.

Based on this and according to International Plant Protection Convention Standards for Phytosanitary Measures 8 and 9, Ceratitis capitata (Wiedemann) is considered a quarantine pest present: transient.
