Subject: Citrus Longhorned Beetle discovered in Washington State
Publicada: August 21, 2001
Source: APHIS, Associated Press

On August 9, a Citrus longhorned beetle, Anoplophora chinensis, was found in a local nursery in Tukwila, Washington. A subsequent survey conducted by APHIS and the Washington State Department of Agriculture revealed four additional individuals, one of which escaped into the environment. The beetles were found on bonsai trees ( Acer spec. ) imported from Korea. All trees of the shipment were closely examined and then destroyed. The nursery voluntarily treated its premises with a contact pesticide. APHIS and WSDA are considering appropriate additional actions. APHIS has alerted all plant inspection stations and is collecting information on the movement of trees in this shipment and similar shipments.
