Subject: Mormon cricket infestation in Utah
Publicada: June 28, 2001

Utah governor Michael Leavitt recently asked the USDA to help combat the state's worst infestation of Mormon crickets (Anabrus simplex) since the early 1940s. The infestation has covered 1.5 million acres in 18 of the state's 25 counties, and caused at least $25 million in crop damage. With the crickets nearing the end of their short lives, the fight to kill the insects will have to wait until a new generation emerges next year.
