Subject: Spain detects citrus black spot in shipments from South America
Publicada: August 13, 2001
Source: SANINET

Various ships carrying citrus from South American countries were denied entry into Spanish ports this month after inspectors had found fruit infected with citrus black spot, Guignardia citricarpa.
The Spanish growers' association Asociación Valenciana de Agricultores warned that the ships may try to unload their cargo in European ports that are not located in citrus-growing areas and therefore have less strict controls for citrus. They called for intensified sampling to prevent the entry of the infected fruit into Europe.
