A new discovery in Florida is the African sugarcane spider mite, Oligonychus grypus Baker and Pritchard. The mite, native to Africa, is reported from Cuba, Australia, and most recently Brazil. The reported host range for O. grypus includes sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) and cassava (Manihot esculenta), as well as sorghum, rice, and corn.
